More Walks to Wet Your Whistle
Following the success of his first book of circular walks, the author, Roger Seedhouse, has prepared a second set of eighteen walks covering some more of the most beautiful countryside in Shropshire and along its border with Staffordshire. As before there is plenty to suit every taste, both for more experienced walkers and, with shorter alternatives, for casual walkers or those wishing to vary the length of their walk as mood or time constraints dictate. The main walks of between 6 and 10 miles are arranged with a pub break conveniently located as near to halfway as possible. Short alternatives start and finish at the pub and vary in distance from between 2 1/2 and 5 miles. The pubs vary in style and character but have generally been chosen to provide a watering hole in which the walker will feel welcome and comfortable.

The Hospital's history stretches over 450 years; housed in beautiful medieval buildings that were themselves historic when the institution was established, the Lord Leycester has witnessed the vicissitudes of the passing centuries, and over all that time the Brethren and Masters have been at its heart. The stories of those that have inhabited the Hospital provide an important record of the way of life since its foundation in 1571. and it is hoped that the Masters and Brethren of the future will continue to preserve the tradition of service, hospitality and community, adding further chapters to the stories that this book so compellingly records.

Historic Houses & Gardens of Warwick by Christine Cluley & Jennifer Meir
Owing to the superb defensive position of the great castle, which still stands sentinel above the River Avon, Warwick has been important for the past thousand years or more. The town has a long and interesting history, and still has many attractive buildings dating from medieval times, the Elizabethan era and the Georgian period. The interesting variety of gardens and parks in Warwick include the grounds of the castle which were redesigned by Capability Brown in the mid-eighteenth century. There are numerous other gardens, many associated with historic houses, as well as the recently restored Hill Close Gardens, a rare survival of a group of nineteenth-century urban leisure gardens once common on the outskirts of most towns. In this superbly illustrated, full-colour guide, Christine Cluley and Jennifer Meir take the reader on a tour of Warwick's historic houses and gardens, from the Court House, to Lord Leycester Hospital, through Priory Park and to the castle itself.

Illustrated Tales of Warwickshire by S.C Skillman
Warwickshire, often known as Shakespeare's County, has a host of strange and mysterious tales ranging from ancient legends and stories of the supernatural to more modern documented cases. Curious beliefs and customs were once widespread in Warwickshire's towns and villages, some of which still flourish today. These strange and spooky stories include the quirky death of the Roundhead commander who owned Warwick Castle, the association of the great author J.R.R. Tolkien with the town, and the story of the hand of glory obtained at Warwick hangings. The historic buildings of Stratford-upon-Avon have witnessed many strange events over the centuries and more recently the Crackley Wood sprite has been sighted at Kenilworth. Other stories include the Wroth Silver of Knightlow Cross, an 800-year-old violent ball game played annually at Atherstone on Shrove Tuesday, and the unresolved mystery of the 1945 murder at Lower Quinton associated with witchcraft, along with other strange tales from the surrounding towns and villages. These stories are accompanied by the author's photographs in this hugely entertaining book.

Warwick A Short History & Guide by Christine M Cluley
For 1,400 years Warwick has graced the Midlands with its fine castle, attractive architecture and sense of history. However, there has not been a comprehensive guidebook available for visitors and locals alike. This book provides a detailed but accessible description of the history and architecture of this fascinating town in the form of a guided walk. Christine M. Cluley has designed a tour that takes visitors around the heart of Warwick within the original walls. The route covers two miles and takes approximately two hours. It can be followed in one attempt or broken up into smaller adventures. The buildings along the way provide a treasure chest of architectural styles with hints of medieval survivals, a few Tudor gems, some Victorian creations and some more modern additions that bring the story up to date. Above all, though, Warwick offers one of the finest surviving examples of an early eighteenth century townscape. Christine M. Cluley is an award-winning local historian who has previously published on the county's history. Although now living just over the border, she considers herself a Warwickshire woman at heart and here shares her admiration and affection for one of the most beautiful towns in England.
