Hand made unique one-off ceramic vessels inspired by love of nature by artist Jim Elliott of Kenilworth Ceramics. Jim has been making pots for over 25 years.  His journey began at an evening course at Tile College, Coventry as a antidote to work and then progressed as a hobby.  After the college closed, he continued at The Butts, Coventry and is currently at Warwickshire College Leamington Spa. "Working with the humble lump of clay earth with so many options to create shapes and forms still never ceases to inspire me" says Jim. Some years ago' he found that throwing on the wheel was where he wanted to spend his valuable spare time.  "There is nothing quite like it for me, as I sit with a ball of clay on my wheel, constructing the idea of what it is to become, before I send it on its own little journey" he says. "I threw the classic shapes of cylinders and bowls for many years after which I started experimenting with altering the form and shape." This is where Jim spends most of his time now. Squashing, cutting, reassembling - it all enables an infinite outcome of possibilities. Currently Jim is developing two piece bottles from two thrown sections.  In addition, he is creating Raku ware, which is just amazing and gives infinite possibilities. He throws the form and bisque fires once as normal, than uses his outside kiln to take the pot out at a very high temperature, put in a combustible and let nature takes its course. The results are staggering and he often feels he's practising alchemy, whilst learning with each and every firing. Jim is forever grateful to all his tutors for their guidance and patience. "Clay is a medium that benefits from understanding and knowledge and sharing is essential." Ceramics at £75.00 available in-store.
