Castle Cat Bear and Ragged Staff Mug
With Bear & Ragged Staff emblem front and back and a side image of Warwick Castle Guys Tower. Designed by Emma Rawlinson exclusively for our Visit Warwick shop. The Bear and Ragged Staff is a heraldic emblem or badge associated with the Earldom of Warwick. The ragged staff is believed to refer to Morvidus, an early legendary Earl of Warwick who is said to have slain a giant with a young ash tree torn up by the roots. The emblem of a bear (Latin ursus ) is believed to refer to Urse d'Abetot (c.1040-1108), 1st feudal baron of Salwarpe in Worcestershire, a Norman who followed King William the Conqueror to England, and served as Sheriff of Worcestershire. His heir was his son-in-law Walter de Beauchamp (died 1130/3), whose descendant was William de Beauchamp, 9th Earl of Warwick (c.1238-1298), the eldest son of William de Beauchamp of Elmley by his wife Isabel de Mauduit, sister and heiress of William Mauduit, 8th Earl of Warwick. This vibrant mug celebrates the tradition and the history of the town of Warwick.

Henry VIII Fridge Magnet
Henry VIII (28 June 1491 – 28 January 1547) was King of England from 22 April 1509 at age 17, until his death in 1547. Henry is best known for his six marriages and his efforts to have his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon annulled. His disagreement with Pope Clement VII about such an annulment led Henry to initiate the English Reformation, separating the Church of England from papal authority. Henry cultivated the image of a Renaissance man and his court was a centre of scholarly and artistic innovation and glamorous excess. He was an accomplished musician, author, and poet; and he is reputed to have written "Greensleeves" but probably did not. Henry was an avid gambler and dice player, and excelled at sports, especially jousting, hunting, and real tennis. He was an intellectual, the first English king with a modern humanist education. He read and wrote English, French, and Latin, and owned a large library. He was also over 6 feet tall and well built, as many portraits depict.

Visit Warwick Curvy Pen
The Visit Warwick Curvy Pen, available in colour blue only with black ink, is comfortable to hold and a delight to use. The name 'Warwick' stems from an olde Anglo-Saxon word meaning 'dwellings by the weir' and is a market town and the county town of Warwickshire. Warw ick has ancient origins and an array of historic buildings, notably from the Medieval, Stuart and Georgian eras. It was a major fortified settlement from the early Middle Ages, the most notable building of this period being Warwick Castle, a major tourist attraction. Much of the town was destroyed in the Great Fire of Warwick in 1694 and then rebuilt with fine 18th century buildings, such as the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Shire Hall, and the Court House where you will find the Warwick Visitor Information Centre. One outstanding medieval building remains in the centre of the town, the Lord Leycester Hospital established in 1571 by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. The population as of 2021 was estimated at 37,267.

Warwick 'Vintage' Print and Frame
Beautiful A4 print of the Lord Leycester Hospital, founded by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester in 1591 and still in use today as an alms home for retired servicemen, and the West Gate of Warwick, one of two remaining gates from when Warwick was a walled town. These buildings dating from medieval times in the centre of Warwick, are a reminder of how the town looked before the Great Fire of Warwick in 1694. West Gate was also known as the 'hanging gate' topped by The Chapel of St. James the Great where monks would have endlessly chanted their prayers and masses. This print even shows the delightful Victorian pillar box, one of only two remaining in the town. A unique memento or gift available in a silver frame.
